Stephen Montague's John Cage Dinner Party
Dinner Party challenges traditional notions of what constitutes “music”. The “diners” chatter and hum, rattle their cutlery, tap the table and play their wine glasses, break into songs and arias along the way. The dinner party may seem random, but is based on a “menu” of options and time frames, and a performance created through chance operations.

Rocket Opera present a performance of Stephen Montague's John Cage Dinner Party.
Stephen Montague's interest in and close relationship with Cage, his philosophy and aesthetics, and sense of humour, is evident in the Dinner Party, which, like Cage’s iconic and iconoclastic 4’33” challenges traditional notions of what constitutes “music”. The “diners” chatter and hum, rattle their cutlery, tap the table and play their wine glasses, break into songs and arias along the way. The dinner party may seem random, but is based on a “menu” of options and time frames, and a performance created through chance operations.
